Factoid # 1
You cant change the math of the slot machines. If they are programmed to pay out a certain amount in the long run, they will pay out very close to that amount. But while you cant change the math, you can change machines. If youve lost 1/3 of the money you slotted for slots, take a break and then play a different machine. Youll feel better. Of course, that doesnt mean the new machine will treat you any better but at least you can hope.
Factoid # 2
If you are on a tight gambling budget, but enjoy the game of Three-Card Poker, either play the competition round versus the dealer (ante and play) or play the non-competition round (Pair Plus) but do not play both! This game is fast and can eat away at small bankrolls spread out on too many bets. Keep in mind that if you are a $5 player and bet three propositions at a game, you have just tripled your minimum.

In the long run how much you win, or how little you lose, at video poker is determined by your skill level at the games you choose to play. There are better and worse video poker machines. For example, you are better off playing a 9/6 Jacks or Better machine than an 8/5 one. Look up the games in a good video poker book and play accordingly

Computers and mathematical analysis have shown that Progressive Betting, either increasing your bets after you lose or increasing your bets after you win, does not change the house edge one way or the other. The only change that occurs is in the patterns of your wins and losses -- they are more explosive. If you want to bet progressively then a positive progression (up as you win) is better than a negative progression (up as you lose) if you start your betting at a lower rate than usual.

The hit frequency on a slot machine indicates how often some money is returned to you. It does not indicate whether a machine is loose or tight. Often machines will return your original bet but nothing else. That is considered a hit. Sometimes machines will return LESS than your original bet -- and that is also considered a hit. You can theoretically have a machine that hits 100 percent of the time with no wins!

The only machines in the casinos where you get to make decisions that actually affect how much you win or lose are video poker machines. If you know what machines to play, and how to play them, you can sometimes get an edge over the house! If you add in comps, some machines actually return more than 101 percent!
